Armstrong Names The Kroger Co. Its 2014 Flooring Recycler of the Year

Lancaster, PA, August 3, 2015—Armstrong World Industries named The Kroger Co. as its 2014 Flooring Recycler of the Year.

This is the second year in a row that Kroger, one of the world's largest retailers, has been awarded Armstrong’s Recycler of the Year Award.

Kroger’s commitment to zero net waste extends to all of their stores, a portfolio which includes Fred Meyer, Dillons, Ralphs, QFC, Fry’s, Food 4 Less, King Soopers, and Smiths.

The Armstrong award recognizes organizations that made significant environmental contributions by recycling resilient flooring materials during demolition projects, resulting in a reduction in landfill materials, transportation and energy.

“Kroger’s commitment to environmental sustainability is demonstrated by their efforts to reclaim vinyl composition tile (VCT) from multiple stores throughout the United States. This year, Kroger is receiving our award, because they recycled over 1.6 million pounds of material,” said Amy Costello, Sustainability Manager, Armstrong Flooring.

Kroger began recycling vinyl composition tile flooring, removed during renovation of their grocery stores, nationwide in 2013 through the Armstrong Floor Recycling Program.
