College of DuPage HSTI Offers New Classes Promoting Personal Protection

The Homeland Security Training Institute is offering several classes aimed at personal protection during the spring term. All classes will be held in the Homeland Education Center on the College's main campus, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.

Personal Protection in the Home is an eight-hour class which provides participants the attitude, knowledge and skills essential to the safe and efficient handling of a firearm for protection of self, family and property, as well as the legal parameters of the right to self-defense. Classes will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19; Wednesday, March 23; Saturday, April 16; Saturday, May 14; and Tuesday, June 7.

Personal Protection Outside the Home is a two-day class through which participants gain the attitude, knowledge and skills essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations, as well as the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed firearm for self-defense outside the home. Classes will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, and Sunday, April 3; Saturday, June 18, and Sunday, June 19; and Saturday, July 16, and Sunday, July 17.

Concealed Carry: Shooter Decision Making and the Law is a four-hour class which combines the use of a decision-making simulator with a discussion of the law related to Concealed Carry. Participants will engage in real-life interactive video simulations to strengthen their knowledge and increase their responsibility in carrying a concealed weapon. Classes will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday. March 30; 6 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12; and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, and Thursday, May 19.

Concealed Carry with Confidence is a two-day, 18-hour class which satisfies the legal requirements set forth by the Concealed Carry Act. In addition, students gain crucial real-world experience and decision-making skills through the use of a state-of-the-art concealed carry firearm simulator and the Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) inside the four-dimensional immersion "street scene" in the Homeland Security Education Center. Classes will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, and Sunday, March 6; Saturday, April 23, and Sunday, April 24; Saturday, May 21, and Sunday, May 22; and Saturday, June 25, and Sunday, June 26.
