Arkansas Index falls 1.39; 11 stocks drop

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, dropped 1.39 to 330.94 Thursday.

"U.S. stocks were slightly lower on Thursday, pausing from this week's gains as investors weighed some mixed earnings and Wednesday's Federal Reserve minutes," said John Blackwell, senior vice president and managing director of equity trading at Stephens Inc. in Little Rock. "The Arkansas Index moved lower as 11 stocks declined, six advanced and one was unchanged."

Communications Sales & Leasing lost 3.9 percent in active trading.

Murphy Oil fell 2.4 percent in light trading.

ArcBest and America's Car-Mart each rose 2.3 percent.

Total volume of the index was 24.3 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
