The childhood dreams of director Stephen Spielberg, actors Maisie Williams and Mark Rylance and Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain will be revealed in a public art trail this summer.

Their dreams will be reflected in sculptures commissioned to mark the release of Spielberg’s film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG. They will be placed in 6ft jars near London landmarks. In the 1982 book, the Big Friendly Giant blows bottled dreams into the bedrooms of youngsters and befriends the hero, orphaned Sophie. Sophie Dahl, the inspiration for the character, said: “My grandfather was a great champion of dreams and imagination.”

The jars will be on display from July 8 until August 31 before being auctioned to raise money for Save the Children and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, which provides nursing care and family support for seriously ill children.

The film, which will be released on July 22, stars newcomer Ruby Barnhill as Sophie and Oscar-winner Rylance as the giant, as well as Rebecca Hall, Penelope Wilton and Rafe Spall.
