Michael Rembis Named Corporate Chief Executive Officer of Avanti Hospitals

Avanti Hospitals has appointed Michael Rembis as Corporate Chief Executive Officer

El Segundo, Calif. – Avanti Hospitals, which owns and operates Memorial Hospital of Gardena, Community Hospital of Huntington Park, Coast Plaza Hospital, and East LA Doctors Hospital, announced today that its board of directors has appointed Michael Rembis as Corporate Chief Executive Officer.

Rembis brings to Avanti over 25 years of executive level hospital leadership in the Southern California region including holding top administrative positions at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center, Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, Riverside Community Hospital, Centinela Freeman Health System, and JFK Medical Center. He also held administrative posts at Tenet Healthcare System hospitals in San Diego.

“Michael’s expertise and proven leadership, developed across a diverse spectrum of delivery settings in profit and non-profit institutions, has brought the hospitals and organizations he has led exceptional results through enhanced processes and partnerships in operations, finance, business development and clinical management,” said Joel Freedman, president of Avanti Hospitals. “We are extremely confident that Mike’s passion, dedication and successful track record will have an immediate, positive impact on Avanti Hospitals.”

Rembis replaces Arnie Schaffer who joined Avanti Hospitals in August 2014 as interim CEO. At the request of Rembis and the board of directors, Schaffer has agreed to remain with the Avanti for the next several weeks during this leadership transition.

“I am extremely excited to join Avanti’s family of hospitals and sincerely believe that together we can set a new standard for healthcare delivery,” explained Rembis. “Today’s healthcare environment is complex and ever-evolving which is why it is imperative that we diligently continue the research and development of new methodologies to facilitate the delivery of high quality healthcare to our served communities and establish a working environment that inspires passion and a sense of ownership.”

Rembis began his career in 1978 at the Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage. A native of Southern California, he attended UCLA and earned a master’s degree in health services administration at the University of Southern California.

Rembis is the immediate past chairman of Private Essential Access Community Hospitals (PEACH) and is currently a residing board member for L.A. Care and McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert.

Michael and his wife Kris live in Tarzana and they have two daughters who live in Los Angeles and a son who lives in Tempe, AZ.
