Discovery closes BBCWW Lat Am deal

Discovery Communications has agreed a far-reaching first-look deal in Latin America for lifestyle, natural history and motoring programming from BBC Worldwide (BBCWW).

Planet Earth II has sold around the world

Discovery Networks Latin America/US Hispanic (DLA/USH) will gain access to an array of BBC titles including natural history documentary series Planet Earth II and Blue Planet II, the new UK version of Top Gear and baking competition The Great British Bake Off.

Carolina Lightcap, ‎exec VP and chief content officer for DLA/USH, said the agreement “further solidifies Discovery’s commitment in offering high-quality programming throughout our networks in Latin America.”

Anna Gordon, exec VP and MD of BBCWW Latin America/US Hispanic, added: “Discovery and BBC Worldwide are natural partners and we are very proud of our new strategic multi-year partnership.

“BBC Worldwide continues to be one of the world’s most important distributors of innovative, quality content and formats, and this agreement will help ensure Latin American audiences can experience the very best of the BBC.”

Earlier this year BBCWW moved away from channel distribution in Latin America to focus on programme sales, with three of its networks in the region closing as a result.
