SAPS officials throw support behind Phiyega

The commissioners released a statement saying Phiyega had been subjected to unfair treatment as well as a largely negative attitude towards her. 

The board has also denied reports that senior officials are unhappy with her. 

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Mmamonnye Ngobeni has confirmed that they stand behind their General.

"The statement that General Solomon Makgale has issued was a statement of a collective which included the Deputy National Commissioner and all the nine provincial commissioners. So, we are aware and we align ourselves with the content of the statement," she said. 

The Presidency said at the weekend that Phiyega had missed her Friday deadline to give a written submission to the President on why she should keep her job. 

This after the Marikana report said SAPS were largely to blame for the deaths of 34 striking miners at Lonmin in 2012.
