Ever think it would be nice to have the companionship of a pet without all the work of caring for it? Well, Hasbro hopes you do. The toy company just introduced a line of robotic cats specially-designed for the elderly. Why the elderly?

"We believe that the power of play can bring joy to people at all stages of life, and we've heard from our friends, fans, and consumers that some of our toys and games are especially appealing to seniors and enhance meaningful interactions with their loved ones," says the site.

Not sure if they're on to something, but the company did put a lot of work into making these cats seem real. Although they don't require litter boxes or trips to the vet, these robotic cats respond to touch and motion like a living cat might. For example, if you stroke your kitty's cheek, it will respond by nuzzling your hand. Hasbro also says the animal's fur and noises are pretty realistic, providing the comforting element of a real cat.

"Whether it's one-on-one time between caregivers and recipients, or multi-generational play with parents, children, and grandchildren, we're excited to enable families and friends of all ages to connect more deeply through the universal language of play," says Ted Fischer, vice president of business development at Hasbro.

The robotic cats come in three colors and are available for pre-sale at $99.99 each, on Hasbro's website and on Amazon. And while we don't really know if Grandma would want one of these, at least now she has the option of having a pet without the hassle of taking care of it.
