SAN DIEGO – Homicide detectives are investigating a deadly scene behind a shopping center in Midway District Thursday morning.

San Diego police said they responded to reports of a fight at 9:30 am behind Dick’s Sporting Good store on Sports Arena Boulevard.

“When officer’s arrived here they did indeed see two people that were in an altercation, physical altercation. They stopped the altercation and at that time one of the participants that was in the altercation went into medical distress. CPR was started here at the scene by the officers, and was taken over by medical personnel when they arrived. Unfortunately, that person was pronounced deceased here at the scene.” Said San Diego Homicide Lt. Mike Hastings.

The back alley of the shopping center was taped off to traffic. Several patrol cars were in the business district. The cause of death was under investigation.

No other information was provided by police, including the gender of the person who died.
