Shaw announced on April 26 that it will be closing Shaw TV stations in Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton by August 15.

The closures will affect 70 jobs.

Corus Entertainment and Shaw Communications will redirect approximately $10 million in funds from those operations to Global News, as of September 1.

Global News will use the funds to establish municipal affairs specialists and city hall bureaus to cover municipal elections and community news; to expand their online platform with grassroots digital content; to cover university, college, and community sports in Western Canada; and holding newscasts from outside the studio.

Shaw TV will continue to develop content in Victoria, Nanaimo, Kelowna, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, and over 180 other markets in Western Canada.
