Elmira event offers school supplies, hoop tourney, food
A school supply giveaway, basketball tourney and guest speaker will be featured at the Back-To-School/Stay-In-School program on Aug. 30 in Elmira.
The event takes place noon to 4 p.m. in Ernie Davis Park, across Lake Street from the former Ernie Davis Middle School building.
Elmira-Corning branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Frontline Family Church, The Program of P.E.A.C.E., Faith Temple Community Church and Wal-Mart are the sponsors.
Psychiatric social worker Nathan Studgeon is the keynote speaker and the event theme is “NAACP: Bouncing Up The Educational Ladder.” The second annual Rev. Leo T. Hughey Basketball Classic will take place and there will be free food and prizes.
