Apple Rumored To Be Ditching The Headphone Jack

Trending News: Latest iPhone 7 Rumors Claim Apple Is Ditching The Headphone Jack

Why Is This Important?

Because is thinner always better?

Long Story Short

The latest rumors spinning around claim that the next iPhone will be 1mm thinner and without a headphone jack. Could it be true?

Long Story

iPhones have changed a whole lot over the years, but there has always been a headphone jack (either at the top or bottom) as an inevitable evolution from the iPod (remember those?). But a rumor from Japanese website Mac Otakara suggests that the next iPhone likely to be called the iPhone 7 if tradition is to be acknowledged, will be released without a headphone jack. If so, it’s been suggested that the iPhone 7 would go down 1mm in size from the 6s, which is 7.1mm thick.

If you're worried about being ripped out of a pair of free headphones, relax, Apple would expectedly provide new EarPods that go straight through the lightning jack.

But, don't go scrambling for a new bluetooth headset or lightning jack pair of earphones just yet — this rumor should probably be taken with a grain of salt. While Mac Rumors calls Mac Otakara an “often-reliable” source, the website has contrarily been excused of not having “the greatest track record” by EnGadget, so who knows how credible this is.

Ditching the headphone jack is also probably too big of a leap to make considering the technology for lightning-equipped headphones is still in the early rollout stages with only a few capable products on the market.

Furthermore, the last time Apple made a big change up on this scale, it got rid of the 30-pin dock charger connecter, and then it changed the connecter again. That really pissed people off. Does Apple really want to go through the same backlash again?.

Maybe. Maybe they don’t care as long as we buy the next product? On the other hand, recent rumors of a waterproof iPhone shows that CEO Tim Cook and co. might actually care that people keep their phones past a year.

Obviously, these are all rumors and it’s way too soon before the expected 2016 launch date to make too big of a deal of this rumor, but it's still intriguing.
