Here in KIev our local vet and a nearby pharmacy have said very firmly said that we should take a prophalytic as well as dosing Belle with Profender every 3 months - I hadn't heard of anything like this in England and while Ukraine is strange in very many wats the Soviet approach to medicine has a lot to praise. Has anyone else heard of something like this? - or 90 Uah for 2 peoples we will be erring on the safe side to protect our baby

So they are saying you should use Profender on Belle every 3 months "just in case"?  I have personally NEVER, EVER needed to use a dewormer on any of my cats, so I honesty can't say one way or another, but does she go outside?  None of my cats go outside, but my previous ones did, but still...never had worms.  Guess we were  lucky
.  Anyway, I know for certain types of parasites, animals (dogs in particular) are given medication on a monthly basis to keep the parasites away, so don't know why it would be a problem, but then again, I am by no means an expert on this matter.  (I DID read on a site that sells it that re-application every 3 months is recommended, so it seems like it would be appropriate, although I don't like getting my info from retailers websites
)

Your VET is telling you you should take a de-wormer if you don't have worms yourself?  Am I reading that correctly?  I think if I were you, I'd check with my personal physician on that piece of advise.  I've never heard of that.

That is exactly what is being said, Belle is an INDOOR cat, we live on the 7Th floor and while she does go out it is in a carrying bag only. She does not walk alone or on a lead. and yes the VET is telling us that even though we don't have any symptoms of worms or parasites (god forbid) we should take some medication as a precaution.

I have since done some research and the US Bayer Profender web page has a video from 2 Veterinary Parasite specialists at OK university who explain the parasite problem and sum it up by saying that if a cat goes outdoors (and I read that to be on the ground not in a bag) they should be treated 4 times a year while INDOOR cats should be treated annually as there is a risk of infection from flea or mosquito bites - there was absolutely no mention of human prophylactics

Our decision is to to trust the OK Uni team
