Hotel Report: Ritz-Carlton's Newest Reserve Will Open Next Week

Now Open

A little more than a year after opening, Shangri-La Hotel, At the Shard, London has completed three signature suites, designed by Italian atelier FM-Architettura d’Interni Studio. Situated on floors 37 to 39 of the iconic glass skyscraper, each suite measures up to 2,000 square feet and all boast custom-made furniture and hand-painted silk wallpaper. The suites come with a long list of over-the-top amenities, including 24-hour butler service, a private chauffeur, 1,000-thread-count Frette linens (as opposed to a mere 300 for standard rooms), a choice of four bathroom toiletry brands, and “augmented reality” iPads that bring the London skyline to life.

The Grand Bohemian Charleston Hotel, a part of the Autograph Collection from Marriott Hotels, will open on August 28 in the Charleston's Historic District neighborhood. (Charleston was voted by our readers as the the fifth-most-popular city in the United States.) The luxury boutique hotel will have 50 guest rooms as well as an on-site art gallery, a rooftop restaurant and terrace, and a specialty coffee shop.

Ritz-Carlton Reserve, the ultra-exclusive resort brand from Ritz-Carlton Hotels, will open their third property in Ubud, Bali on September 5. Set within lush, rolling hills and overlooking the Ayung River, this Reserve will have only 60 guest villas and suites, along with a yoga-focused spa, and four different restaurants. Guests will also have the attention of a dedicated "Patih," or butler, during their stay.

New Looks

L'Auberge de Sedona, a luxury creekside retreat among the Red Rocks of Sedona, Arizona, and voted one of the top hotels in the Southwest, is currently undergoing a renewal slated for completion this fall. The renovations will put updated furniture, fixtures, and bathrooms into 30 of the guest cottages; there will also be an updated arrival experience as well as a new indoor-outdoor bar and lounge area.

Singaporean hotelier Loh Lik Peng of boutique-minded Unlisted Collection, which includes the New Majestic Hotel in Singapore, will soon unveil the Old Clare Hotel in Sydney, a 62-room hotel built out of the historic Carlton & United Brewery building in the city’s Chippendale neighborhood.

Brazilian hospitality company Fasano, which currently owns the Hotel Fasano in Rio De Janeiro, will reopen the iconic Shore Club in Miami at the end of 2017 as the Fasano Hotel and Residences at Shore Club. The hotel will undergo major renovations led by Brazilian architect and designer Isay Weinfeld to transform the space into a 100-room hotel with 75 luxury residences.

Hong Kong-based Langham Hotels recently announced plans to open its first Texas hotel in Frisco, which about 40 miles north of Dallas. The 250-room Langham Hotel will be a part of the Wade Park mixed-used development which will also include a Hotel ZaZa, Whole Foods Market, iPic Theaters, and Pinstripes bowling lanes.

Hotelier Ian Schrager and Marriott International will open their next Edition Hotel in Reykjavik, Iceland, in 2018. The 250-room hotel will be located along the harbor waterfront in downtown, next to Harpa, the city's concert hall. (You can take a visual tour of Iceland here.) Schrager and Marriott plan on opening five more Edition Hotels by 2018, including Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, Times Square, and Hollywood.
