Former Crestline principal dies at 86

Former educator and local principal Roy Greenhill, 86, passed away  on Friday morning, Feb. 17 in Huntsville Hospital.

“Mr. Greenhill” took his first job in education in 1956 at Eva High School teaching business courses and left Eva in July of 1964 to go to Crestline Elementary as an Assistant Principal.  He became principal later that year and served in that position until his retirement in July of 1992.

After he retired, he worked at The Learning Tree School Supply Store in Decatur for over 12 years.

Mr. Greenhill was one of ten honorees of the inaugural class of the Hartselle Educator Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club for many years and served as the club’s president from 1974-75 and was the treasurer for several terms. He was also a member of the American Legion for many years and was voted Educator of the Year by the organization.

Mr. Greenhill served the Hartselle Community through his long tenure as Principal and his involvement in civic and professional organizations and his church. He was a member of Hartselle Church of Christ and served as a deacon for several decades.
