After management failed to offer a fair deal and refused to bargain in good faith, Shore Nurses reluctantly authorized a one-day strike scheduled to start October 8th at 7am. Under the terms of the most recent contract, Shore Medical Center made millions of dollars. Shore would continue to do so under the terms of the new contract nurses have proposed.
But, Shore management wants more and has demanded changes to health benefits, retirement benefits, wages, and time-off benefits that would cost thousands of dollars per nurse.
While refusing to engage in good faith bargaining, management has violated federal law by:
- Delaying in providing vital information to union members for bargaining purposes;
- Prohibiting nurses from wearing union buttons or insignia, while allowing employees to wear other buttons and insignia;
- Parading strike replacements throughout the hospital, stating that these are your replacements when you go on strike.
The National Labor Relations Board has set a hearing date for these unfair labor practices for December 10, 2015.
Shore Nurses have released a radio ad calling on the management at Shore Medical to negotiate a fair contract and avoid a strike. The ad began airing yesterday, September 29, and can be found here: https://soundcloud.com/shorenurses/patients-above-profits-a-message-from-shore-nurses-union.
Billboards have also been installed to raise awareness of the campaign for a fair contract in Egg Harbor and Marmora.
