LCU announces speakers for graduation ceremonies

Lubbock Christian University will honor the spring 2015 undergraduates at a commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 9, at 10 a.m. in the Rip Griffin Center, located at 26th Street and Chicago Avenue.

John J. Christman, IV, CEO and President of the Apache Corporation, will be the keynote speaker at the event.

Christman was born and raised in Lubbock, TX. He attended Lubbock Christian Schools and graduated in 1984. While Chrestmann had the option to remain in Lubbock and play football for Texas Tech University, he chose to attend the Colorado School of Mines, where he earned his BA in Petroleum Engineering. He later earned an MBA from Southern Methodist University.

Christman began his career working for Vastar Resources/ARCO Oil and Gas Company, where he specialized in business development, crude oil marketing, and engineering assignments. He then joined the Apache Corporation in 1997, holding various roles of increasing responsibility in the business development area. He has served in positions such as Production Manager of the Gulf Coast Region, Vice President of the Permian Region, Executive Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer.

Christman has kept strong ties to Lubbock, serving on the board of the LCU Foundation and as Texas Tech University's Petroleum Department Advisory Board Chairman. He was also recently inducted into Texas Tech's Academy of Petroleum Engineers.

GRADUATE STUDENTS

Lubbock Christian University will honor its spring 2015 graduate students with a hooding ceremony on Friday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the McDonald Moody Auditorium located on the LCU campus.

Dr. Brandon L. Fredenburg, professor and assistant dean of the College of Biblical Studies and Behavioral Sciences, will be the keynote speaker.

Dr. Fredenburg has been serving Lubbock Christian University since July of 2000. He began as an assistant professor in the Biblical Studies Department, and in 2004 he became an associate professor. He was appointed Assistant Dean of the College of Biblical Studies and Behavioral Sciences in 2012.

Dr. Fredenburg received his BA in Biblical Languages with a minor in Speech Communication from David Lipscomb University in 1988. He earned his Master of Arts degree in Biblical Studies from David Lipscomb University in 1989 and his MDiv from the Beeson Divinity School of Samford University in 1993. And in 2003, he received his PhD in Religious and Theological Studies from the University of Denver and The Iliff School of Theology.

Dr. Fredenburg is a published author and has presented at academic conferences such as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools—Council on Colleges national meeting and at the Christian Scholars' Conference. Dr. Fredenburg is leading the university's effort for accreditation of LCU's Graduate Master's programs in biblical and related studies through the Association of Theological Schools—Council on Accreditation.
