A topping out ceremony was held Monday for the Hassalo on Eighth superblock project, though high winds forced construction crews to abort the placement of the final beam on the development’s 21-story tower. The milestone was celebrated by a crowd including representatives with developer American Assets Trust, GBD Architects and Turner Construction, while U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer and Portland Mayor Charlie Hales spoke about the project’s impact on the Lloyd District and the city as a whole.

The mixed-use development will feature a total of 657 apartment units in three buildings: the 21-story Aster Tower, the six-story Velomor, and the five-story Elwood Building. All three buildings will feature ground-floor retail. The $192 million project is slated for completion this summer.
