Tickets For 1989 Tour Are Most Expensive Ever For Taylor Swift

This article is more than 8 years old.

Taylor Swift may not be the Queen of Pop by any official means, but the title rings true at least as far as this summer is concerned.  Swift’s 1989 World Tour has been dominating the ticket market since it kicked off this past May, and the singer has hit multiple noteworthy dates along the way, including back-to-back shows earlier this month at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The tour will stretch out until December, where it will finish up with six dates in Australia.  The show, which features performances by opening acts Haim, Vance Joy and Shawn Mendes, has been penned as the top tour of the summer.  According to Billboard, the 84-date tour, which spans out for seven months, has already raked in over $32.1 million in the U.S. alone, and with a whole five months left on its run, Swift could have even bigger tour accolades headed her way.

While the majority of the 1989 tour dates are selling out fast, many Taylor Swift concert passes do remain on the secondary market.  On average for this tour, Swift’s international dates have yielded a get-in ticket price of $199.00, according to international ticket reseller, Ticketbis.  Her most expensive European date was her June 29 date in Dublin, where the average ticket price was $285, with a get-in price of $198.  For Swift’s North American dates, the average Taylor Swift ticket price on TiqIQ across the map is $380, and her cheapest date is her North Dakota show at the Fargodome on October 12, where the average ticket price is $182.95 with a get-in of $79.

To no surprise, Swift’s ticket sales have only grown exponentially through her last three tours.  Her Speak Now Tour, which ran from 2011-2012, saw incredibly impressive ticket sales on the secondary market.  Her back-to-back New York City dates at Madison Square Garden in November of 2011 had average ticket prices of $461.97 and $539.34, with get-in prices of $109 and $139, respectively.  The Red Tour in 2013 hit one date in East Rutherford, NJ on July 13, and the average ticket price was $146.73, with a get-in price of $62. Earlier this month at MetLife Stadium her ticket prices were $493.77 with a $138 get-in and $396.76 with a get-in of $131 for the July 10 and 11 shows, respectively.

In total, her Red Tour tickets averaged $176 across all tour stops, whereas the 1989 Tour is averaging $392 per concert, a 123% increase.

Swift has found the perfect sense of appeal when it comes to securing a fan base, and proves why her tickets are well worth the expense.  At many dates, the singer has invited various celebrity friends on stage with her, including Lorde, Kendall Jenner, Lena Dunham, and even the U.S. Women’s National soccer team.  Swift has also found ways to make fans as connected to the show as possible, including her inclusion of bracelets with LED lights that react and correspond to her music, given to every attendee as they walk in.  And, as the ever present solid role model, Swift has been known to give pep talks and life advice throughout each performance.
