Illinois Tool Works CEO E. Scott Santi and wife Nancy paid $6.1 million last month for a four-bedroom, 6,350-square-foot vintage mansion on Lake Michigan in Winnetka.

Santi, who became Glenview-based Illinois Tool Works’ CEO in late 2012, earned total compensation of just under $12 million in 2014, according to the firm’s most recent proxy statement. A deed that was recorded with Cook County last week identifies Nancy Santi as the buyer of the two-story lakefront house, which sits on a 1.05-acre parcel.

Built in 1927 as part of a set of three lakefront homes designed by Sloan & Johnson, the Santis’ turreted, French Normandy-style house has arched dormers, herringbone-style brickwork and limestone banding, among other unusual architectural features.

It has 51/2 baths, two first-floor master suites, a temperature-controlled conservatory, a grill room, two wine cellars and a heated, underground six-car garage. The mansion had been on and off the market for the past three years for $6.995 million.

The Santis bought the home from former Orval Kent Food CEO Richard Kent. The couple’s purchase was the highest-priced sale in Winnetka since another lakefront mansion sold last summer, also for $6.1 million.

Paige Dooley of The Hudson Company represented the Santis. In an interview late Sunday, she declined to comment on the transaction.
