There is some exciting news for Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge users – Samsung’s website claims that AT&T owners will receive their official Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update tomorrow, October 10. This will be a nice bump up from their current Android 5.0.1, although Samsung did not provide any changelog information – AT&T will most likely do that. You will not see too much of a visual change as Samsung’s ever-present TouchWiz is always lurking on top, although it is a ‘kinder and gentler’ TouchWiz than we have seen in the past.  Samsung has said it is working hard at getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow ready for its flagships, which includes the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge, so it is hoped that it will not take them as long to jump to Marshmallow, as it did to Lollipop.
Samsung, always seems to throw in a wrinkle and 2014 was no exception when they surprised everyone with a new Galaxy Note 4 and a Galaxy Note Edge – each with an S-Pen and one with a curved display on the right. They both use the QHD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 for 515 PPI on the 5.7-inch Note 4 and 524 PPI on the 5.6-inch Note Edge with the extra 160 pixels on the side. They both used the same 32-bit Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor clocked at 2.7 GHz in the LTE markets and Samsung’s Exynos 5433 octa-core processor in other markets. Each has 3GB of DDR3 RAM and 32GB of base internal memory, but unlike the new Galaxy Note 5, the Note 4 and Note Edge have a microSD card slot to expand that memory another 128GB.
The cameras are identical – a 16MP sensor with autofocus, an LED flash, OIS and Live HDR – and will take excellent photos. For those selfies and video chats, a 3.7MP front-facing camera with a wide-angle 120 degrees lens for excellent group selfies. They do have slightly different battery sizes with the Note 4 coming in at 3,220 mAh and the Note Edge slightly smaller at 3,000 mAh, and unlike the Note 5, these batteries are removable. They are equipped with a quick charge battery, IR Blaster, Fingerprint scanner, Heart Rate sensor, UV and Oxygen saturation sensor. They are also equipped for VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling. With all of these features, they are still very competitive devices looking forward to receiving Android 6.0.
