In this week’s round-up, new unscripted titles are set to air on a range of networks, including The Weather Channel, TLC, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, CNBC and Showtime.
U.S. net The Weather Channel is readying the premiere of Natural Born Monsters. The 8 x 60-minute series is to follow host and explorer Sean Duggan as he journeys the globe to uncover some of the rarest and most dangerous creatures while investigating how weather patterns shaped each animal and their habitats. The Karga Seven Pictures-produced series is to launch September 21 at 10 p.m. EST/PST on The Weather Channel.
American cable network Showtime is slated to air the Antoine Fuqua-directed American Dream/American Knightmare on September 26 at 9 p.m. EST/PST. The documentary delves into the life of Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight through first-hand accounts, and explores the highs and lows of the former hip-hop mogul. Knight is currently awaiting trial on murder, attempted murder, and hit-and-run charges.
Elsewhere, Discovery Communications-owned channel TLC will roll out Love At First Swipe (pictured) on October 2 at 9 p.m. EST/PST. Produced by Jane Street Entertainment, the series will set out to help women looking to find love in the modern digital age.
Each episode will see hosts Clinton Kelly (What Not To Wear) and Devyn Simone (Real World) identify and correct the mistakes each individual makes online – from overtly sexual photos to depressing profiles – transforming their digital and real-world presence through style makeovers and online dating tips. The women then put their new looks to the test with 100 potential mates, ultimately settling on one match.
CNBC, meanwhile, is gearing up for the return of late night comedian Jay Leno with Jay Leno’s Garage, which bows on October 7 at 10 p.m. EST/PST. The series, which is co-produced by Original Productions and Big Dog Productions, will follow the former Tonight Show host across the U.S. in search of the most unique and coveted vehicles.
Finally, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network will air the week-long docuseries Belief beginning October 18. The 7 x 60-minute series is to investigate the origins of faith and mankind’s ongoing search for meaning. Co-produced by Harpo Studios and New York-based part2 pictures, the docuseries will travel the globe to reveal the spiritual journeys taken by individuals of various religious beliefs in search of meaning, love and forgiveness. All seven episodes are slated to air at 8 p.m. EST/PST across the network, concluding on October 24.
