Rolando Aarons shares the message Steve McClaren has been telling Newcastle’s squad every day

Newcastle United moved out of the relegation zone after beating West Brom at the weekend.

Rolando Aarons has told Newcastle United’s official website that Steve McClaren had been talking about the importance of bouncing back throughout the week, after seeing his side heavily beaten by Everton last Wednesday.

Newcastle were beaten 3-0 by the Toffees in midweek, and McClaren refused to let the team forget about their performance in that fixture in the build-up to their match against West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.

McClaren’s motivational technique seemed to work, as Newcastle put in a much improved performance against West Brom, as they picked up a 1-0 win, and Aarons was delighted to collect the victory.

“The gaffer has been talking to us everyday since Everton about bouncing back and getting a reaction from the team and I think we did that today,” the youngster said.

“We’re out of the bottom three which was our goal at the start of the day now it’s just about staying clear of that.

“In the situation we are in we need to make St. James’ Park a fortress, and the past few games we’ve started to show how good we can be at home.

Aarons was handed a start in the fixture against West Brom in the unfamiliar position of left-back with Newcastle’s defence down to the bare bones.

And although the youngster has not played much football of late due to injury, he impressed throughout the match.

Aarons was solid defensively and he showed his attacking quality when allowed to get forward.

Newcastle’s win over West Brom has taken them out of the relegation zone, with Norwich City now dropping into the bottom three.
