Barracuda Fall 3-2 at Home to Stars

SAN JOSE, CA -The San Jose Barracuda (7-8-0-3, 17pts) presented by Barracuda Networks fell short 3-2 to the visiting Texas Stars (12-8-0-1, 25pts) in front of 3,056 fans at the SAP Center on Sunday afternoon. The Barracuda are back in action on Friday, December 4 at 7:30pm vs. the Stockton Heat.
Trevor Parkes (1-0-1) and Gus Young (1-0-1) scored the Barracudas while Troy Grosenick (4-4-2) saved 25 of the 28 shots he faced in the loss. Both teams had one penalty shot in the 1st period that were both saved by the goaltenders. Curtis McKenzie (1-0-1), Radek Faksa (1-0-1) and Brendan Ranford (1-0-1) scored for the Stars while John Muse (5-1-1) made 33 save on 35 shots for the win as the Stars earned a spilt in the two game weekend set.
Texas jumped out to an early lead 45 seconds into the game thanks to Curtis McKenzie (1st) as his shot from behind the net ricocheted off of a body in front and past Grosenick. Fast and physical play ensued between the evenly matched teams who went back and forth exchanging multiple scoring opportunities throughout the period. Curtis McKenzie drew a penalty shot at 10:52 after being pulled down from behind on a breakaway attempt. Grosenick turned away the penalty shot with his right pad after McKenzie fired a quick wrister from right circle. Three and half minutes later Jeremy Langlois had a breakaway attempt off of a long stretch pass down the middle of the ice that drew a penalty shot for the Barracuda. Langlois weaved left and right on his approach to the net and tried to beat Muse five hole but was stymied by his right pad. Shots were 9-8 in favor of Texas.
Trevor Parkes (3rd) tipped the puck into the back of the net at 10:00 in the second period after a Scott Timmins deflected a Joakim Ryan's shot from the point to tie it up 1-1. The Stars battled back and scored two quick goals 15 seconds apart increasing their lead to 3-1. Radek Faksa (4th) scored the first one at 13:16 after forcing a turnover on the Stars blueline, skating it up on a breakaway then sliding the puck between Grosenick's legs. Brendan Ranford (6th) then lit the lamp off of a pass from behind the net after a flurry of shots at 13:31. Defenseman Gus Young (1st) scored his first goal of the season on a wicked backhand from 20 feet out to reduce the Stars lead to one goal at 15:05. Shots were 13 to 10 in favor of the Barracuda.
Exciting play continued through the 3rd period with the Barracuda taking one minor penalty and the Stars taking two. Both goaltenders were stellar turning away all shot attempts. San Jose pulled Grosenick with a minute left in the game but they were unable to capitalize with the extra skater. Shots were 14 - 9 in favor of San Jose as the Stars held on for a 3-2 victory.

John Muse (5-1-1) made 33 saves on 35 shots for Texas....Troy Grosenick (4-4-2) made 25 saves on 28 shots for San Jose ....San Jose went 0-for-3 on the power play while Texas went 0-for-1.... Frazer McLaren, Daniel Doremus, Mike Aviani, Patrick McNally, and Alex Gallant (injured) did not dress for the Barracuda... Micheal Haley and Dylan Demelo returned to the Barracuda lineup after getting loaned from the Sharks on Saturday night...Troy Grosenick is 4-1-1 in his last six starts... the Barracuda had a 5-5-0-2 record in the month of November... Troy Grosenick is 2 for 2 in penalty shots this year.
