Edith Ramirez to remain FTC boss thru 2016: sources

Federal Trade Commission Chair Edith Ramirez, whose term officially expired Sept. 25, will stay on for the rest of President Obama’s term, sources close to the agency told The Post.

“It’s not uncommon for members of the [FTC], including chairmen, to stay on until the White House picks a replacement,” said one individual close to the agency.

Because a presidential election is looming and Congress has opposed many Obama nominees, there is little incentive for the president to find a new chair, a source close to the FTC said.

In August, a Republican commissioner, Joshua Wright, resigned, leaving the FTC with only four commissioners — three of whom are Democrats.

Two big cases remain before the FTC — the investigation of Herbalife on pyramid allegations and the antitrust review of the Staples and Office Depot merger.

The White House did not return a request for comment.
