Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group to introduce ATMs that accept cards issued overseas



Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President and CEO: Takeshi Kunibe) will launch SMBC Trust's ATMs at selected SMBC branches after SMBC Trust Bank Ltd. (SMBC Trust, President and CEO: Hidetoshi Furukawa) completes the acquisition of the retail banking business of Citibank Japan Ltd. (Citibank Japan, Representative Director, President and CEO: Anthony P. Della Pietra, Jr.) on November 1, 2015, subject to approvals by relevant authorities, as already announced. .


This will enable our customers to withdraw cash in yen at branches of SMBC using cards issued overseas* and enhance convenience for foreign visitors to Japan. SMBC Trust customers will also benefit from the greater convenience of more ATMs that they can use.


Installing SMBC Trust's ATMs in SMBC, which offer the existing functionality of Citibank Japan's ATMs, represents a step to strengthen coordination with the SMBC Trust which is planned to acquire Citibank Japan's retail banking business.


SMBC is committed to enhancing the quality of its services and convenience for both domestic and overseas customers, in partnership with SMBC Trust.

Operating hours of the ATMs will be set by individual branches.


*Note: Cards that are planned to be accepted include those bearing the logos of Visa/PLUS, MasterCard/Maestro/Cirrus, Diners Club International, or UnionPay.
