Many of the teams that compete in the Verizon IndyCar Series will head to the scenic Road America track in late-September for their first bit of testing at the track upon the announcement of the series' return next year.

RACER confirmed and noted that the test will be privately organized amongst the teams rather than an official test overseen by the series.

Some of the teams have said they intend to test on September 22, while others have said they'll be at the track on September 28.

"This is something the teams are organizing themselves," said INDYCAR president of competition Derrick Walker. "It will be great to have Indy cars back on the Road America circuit and get some mileage before the series' first time racing there next year."

The Verizon IndyCar Series' return to the track for a round of the 2016 season will mark the first open-wheel race at the scenic track since 2007.

Josef Newgarden of CFH Racing is hopeful that he partakes in the test next month. He notes that he's driven there before, in the Skip Barber series - therefore, much slower cars.

"That would be pretty wild to go back or there for the first time in such a fast car."
