In a shakeup in its command structure, Marvel Studios is being integrated into Walt Disney Studios with president Kevin Feige reporting to Alan Horn, Variety has confirmed.
The move in oversight of Feige to the Walt Disney Studios chairman and away from Marvel Entertainment CEO Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter is one that a company spokesman described as “the logical next step.” There have been reports that Feige clashed with Perlmutter.
The studio positioned the move similar to the ones undertaken by two other Tiffany brands in Disney’s stable — Pixar and Lucasfilm. Both of these enterprises exist within the Walt Disney Studios ecosystem, with Pixar overseen by John Lasseter and Ed Catmull and Lucasfilm guided by Kathleen Kennedy.
Going forward, Marvel Studios will centralize many of its film-related functions in Burbank, a spokesman said. Marvel’s TV group, publishing and other activities will continue to report to Perlmutter.
Along with Feige, who is viewed as guiding the creative direction of Marvel’s cinematic offerings, Co-President Louis D’Esposito will also report to Horn.
