How to eat gluten-free at Progressive Field: Gluten-Free in the CLE (video)

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- There's something about having a beer and a hot dog at a baseball game that just makes sense.

Unfortunately that changed for me five years ago when I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Whether it was due to ignorance or unavailability, I've spent the last few summers sticking to popcorn and Cracker Jack.

After experiencing the new gluten-free offerings at The Q earlier this year, I reached out to those at Progressive Field to find out what they have available to us gluten-avoiders this baseball season.

I'm sure glad I did. Not only are there plenty of options around the park, but new this year is a dedicated gluten-free stand, free of any concerns of cross contamination.

Watch the video above for a few highlights of the stand and how it came to be, as told by Fattar Thomas, general manager of Indians SportService. You can also read below.

There are plenty of gluten-free options at Progressive Field from specialty items such as gluten-free burgers, hot dogs, pretzels and beer to foods that are naturally gluten-free such as popcorn and chips. And they're continuing to expand, with a gluten-free cider on the horizon.

Many gluten-free items can be found all around the park, but the special gluten-free stand is located in Section 153.

I went to an Indians game last week and guess what I had? A hot dog and a beer, of course.

Redbridge isn't usually my gluten-free beer of choice but it was great to have the option. The hot dog bun was great, although I think I would have been thrilled with any way to eat a hot dog with some stadium mustard watching the Tribe.

Have you tried the new gluten-free stand? What were your thoughts? Please let me know in the comments below.
