CNA has a new president and CEO of its Canadian division. Hamilton Re made a number of new appointments and promotions to its managing team. Commercial insurance data automation firm Groundspeed Analytics appointed an insurance industry veteran to its board as an independent director.

Nick Creatura is the new president and CEO of CNA Canada, an arm of CNA Financial Corp.

In his new role, effective May 15, Creatura will be responsible for executing profitable global strategies for the global insurer’s Canadian operations. He will report to David Brosnan, chief executive CNA Hardy.

Previously, Creatura was executive vice president and chief financial officer of Royal & Sun Alliance, Canada. He’s also held senior roles at Liberty, Chubb and PWC in Canada and the U.S.

Creatura succeeds John Hennesy, the former head of CNA’s Canadian operations, who recently moved to CNA’s headquarters in Chicago to lead the company’s global Sales and Distribution team.

Hamilton Re, the Bermuda-based division of Hamilton Insurance Group, made a number of appointments promotions to its management team.

  • Minesh Shah joined Hamilton Re in the new role of senior vice president, Actuary. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the reinsurance field with a focus on risk and capital modeling, reserving, business planning and regulatory reporting. He’s worked previously in Bermuda and the UK with Platinum Underwriters, Renaissance Re and XL Catlin. He’ll report to Chief Risk Officer Pete Skerlj.
  • Richard Sammons, a Hamilton Re executive since 2014, i\now Head of Specialty. The former Senior Vice President, Specialty, will lead development of Hamilton Re’s Specialty book of business. The 19-year insurance industry veteran will report to Claude Lefebvre, Chief Underwriting Officer, Casualty & Specialty.
  • Sam Thomsen has been promoted to the newly-created position of Senior Vice President, Head of Technology, reporting to Skerlj. In his new role, he leads an engineering team that designed and continues to improve Hamilton Re’s technology platform, among other tasks. He has more than 25 years’ experience in building software and managing information systems. Thomsen joined Hamilton Re in 2014, after serving as a consultant for the reinsurer since 2012.

Andrew Robinson

Groundspeed Analytics, a commercial insurance data automation firm focused on machine learning and artificial intelligence, has appointed Andrew Robinson as an independent director to its existing four-member Board of Directors.

Robinson is global chief operating officer for Crawford and Company, the largest global claims services company. He’s also chairman of WeGoLook, a mobile technology and crowdsourcing company that Crawford and Company recently acquired.

Previously, Robinson was president of specialty lines and executive vice president of corporate development at The Hanover Insurance Group, and a board member for Chaucer, one of the largest Lloyd’s managing agents.
