AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) has announced technology improvements in two Indiana communities. The communications provider says it has activated new mobile Internet cell sites in Columbus and turned on 4G LTE coverage in Warsaw. COLUMBUS, IND., JUNE 11, 2014 —AT&T has activated two new mobile Internet cell sites in Columbus that will enhance coverage for area residents and businesses. One of the new cell sites is near I-65 and W. Jonathan Moore Pike, and the other is near 17th Street west of Central Ave.

The cell sites are part of AT&T's Project Velocity IP (VIP), a multi-year plan to invest for growth, announced in 2012. Through this investment, AT&T is supporting its customers’ growing desire for high-quality, fast wireless and wired services.

As part of Project VIP, AT&T is deploying small cell technology, macro cells and additional DAS, which will increase the density of our wireless network. The wireless network densification will further improve network quality and increase spectrum efficiency.

“Investments in mobile Internet technologies foster economic growth in areas like small business, high-tech manufacturing, health care and education,” said Columbus Mayor Kristen Brown. “This investment is especially important to consumers and businesses in our community and will have an immediate impact for our consumers and businesses.”

“Our businesses are communicating with their counterparts around the world with wireless devices that fit in the palm of their hand,” said Cindy Frey, president of the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce. “This enhanced coverage will ensure that local residents and business leaders remain on the forefront of a fully connected future.”

AT&T has invested nearly $1.75 billion in its wireless and wired networks in Indiana between 2011 through 2013, driving a wide range of upgrades to enhance speed, reliability, coverage and performance for residents and business customers.

“Demand for wireless Internet is growing rapidly, and we are excited to bring these new cell sites to residents and businesses in Columbus,” said Bill Soards, president of AT&T Indiana. “We're always looking for new opportunities to provide enhanced coverage, and our investment in the local wireless network is another way we’re accomplishing that.”

WARSAW, Ind. – AT&T has turned on the nation's most reliable 4G LTE network in Warsaw, bringing customers the latest generation of wireless network technology.

“We appreciate AT&T's continued investment in our community, which helps ensure that our citizens benefit from the latest communications technologies and a fully connected future,” said Warsaw Mayor Joseph M. Thallemer.

“Nothing is more important to economic developers in this technology age than state of the art telecommunications,” said Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation President George Robertson. “Our businesses are using products and services that require the most advanced technology networks and all of them depend on reliable connections being available wherever they are.”

“We continue to see demand for mobile Internet skyrocket, and our 4G LTE network in Warsaw responds to what customers want from their mobile experience — more, faster, reliably, on the best devices,” said Bill Soards, president of AT&T Indiana.

AT&T’s 4G Network

This expansion is part of AT&T’s Project Velocity IP (VIP), a three-year investment plan announced in Fall 2012 to expand and enhance its IP broadband networks. Through this investment, AT&T is supporting its customers’ growing desire for high-speed Internet access and new mobile, app and cloud-based services. As part of Project VIP, AT&T plans to add macro cell sites nationwide by year-end 2015, as well as deploy small cells and add Distributed Antenna Systems to increase the density of its wireless network.

Over the past six years (2008-2013), AT&T invested more than $140 billion into its wireless and wireline networks, when you combine capital investment and acquisitions of spectrum and wireless operations. Over the past six years, AT&T has invested more capital into the U.S. economy than any other public company. In a September 2013 report, the Progressive Policy Institute ranked AT&T No. 1 on its list of U.S. “Investment Heroes.”
