Zayn Malik has finally revealed the real reason why he left One Direction.

Back in March, the 22-year-old performer left the boy band while in the middle of their world tour, and while many speculated that his fiancée, Perrie Edwards, was one of the reasons why he left, Malik took to Twitter this week to share that he exited the band to make "real music" after signing a solo deal with RCA Records.

On Wednesday, July 29, Malik tweeted, "I guess I never explained why I left, it was for this moment to be given the opportunity to show you who I really am! #realmusic #RCA!! #REALME".

The singer also posted a black and white photo of himself signing the contract.

It was recently reported that Malik has been dropped from Simon Cowell's record label Syco, which he was under during his time as a One Direction member. Cowell denied the reports. As to Malik's signing with RCA, Cowell appeared to have no hard feelings for the former boy band member as he tweeted his congratulations on the next phase of Malik's career.

"We have been working on this for a while and I am pleased to say congratulations to @Zaynmalik on signing with @RCARecords," Cowell wrote.

He added that he believes that the label is perfect for Malik's solo career and that "whatever they release together will be special."

There has been no comment from One Direction's Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, and Niall Horan as of the moment.

While many of Malik's fans took to social media to tell the singer that they can't wait to hear his new music, some One Direction fans appear to have taken offense at Malik's "real music" tweet.

One fan wrote on Twitter, "You can't show your true self being a One Direction [member]? Is it a fake Zayn we saw from the very beginning?"

Another posted, "So I've been listening to fake music for 5 years?"

Malik's new record label, RCA, has signed a lot of top artists including Britney Spears, Chris Brown, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, and Justin Timberlake.
