The head of FBL Financial Group's life insurance division resigned his position effective today.

John Currier resigned as the chief operating officer of FBL's Life Companies division, the company said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

Currier resigned for personal reasons, according to the filing. He was named the division's COO in March of this year after joining FBL in June 2013 as chief actuary.

Before joining FBL, Currier worked with Aviva USA, ING U.S. Financial Services and Conseco.

West Des Moines-based FBL said a search for Currier's successor is underway.

Shares of FBL, which trades under the symbol FFG, closed up 82 cents to $45.09 today.
