Shop small Saturday to benefit small businesses
Riverside Arts Market is pariticpating, as well as many around town
As the rush of crowds in big box stores fades out with Black Friday, small businesses in Jacksonville will have a chance to shine.
Small Business Saturday gives local shops in Downtown, Murray Hill, and Riverside an opportunity to offer promotions and rally community support.
According to Katherine Hardwick, the marketing director of Downtown Vision Inc., the event was initiated by American Express to raise awareness about shopping locally.
"It's a great movement," Hardwick said. "Black Friday has been a thing for so long, this is a counter-movement to say there's something special about shopping local."
The Riverside Arts Market will also participate in Small Business Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Hardwick said when the small businesses work together, they can bring more people downtown to shop.
"It's something that's easy for them to do and there's strength in numbers," Hardwick said. "They can work together and create that network of a community."
American Express and Downtown Vision Inc. encourage people to shop local and raise support for small businesses this Saturday.
