PT Unilever Indonesia Tbk

Company Background

Forbes magazine has ranked Unilever Indonesia as the fourth-most innovative company in the world in its 2014 list. The accomplishment has highlighted the company's deep reach into the diverse Indonesian lifestyle. Its products -- such as SariWangi tea and Lifebuoy soap -- are some of the best known brands among the country's 250 million people.

The company is also part of its Anglo-Dutch parent's drive toward creating a more sustainable world. As one of the world's biggest users of palm oil, Unilever has been pushing to supply the widely used commodity from reliable sources amid environmental concerns. Unilever Indonesia will soon start using palm oil that its parent company produces locally.

Maurits Lalisang became Unilever Indonesia's president in 2004. An Indonesian citizen, he joined the company in 1980 and eventually worked as its corporate relations director. As president, he has since led a series of acquisitions and factory expansions to multiply revenue and share price.

Nikkei Asian Review, now known as Nikkei Asia, will be the voice of the Asian Century.
