A question lingered after Diebold announced this week that it would nearly double in size and become northeast Ohio’s eighth Fortune 500 Company by taking over a European competitor:

Will the “new” Diebold still be headquartered here?  WKSU’s Tim Rudell talked Tuesday with the man who will lead it.

Diebold is buying German banking security company Wincor Nixdorf — pending regulatory and stockholder approvals.

Diebold CEO Andy Mattes, who proposed the buyout and is to head the combined organization, has only been with the Green-based firm three years and is originally from Germany. Could those be factors in locating the corporate headquarters? He says no.

“We’re an Ohio-based company. I actually relocated my family to Ohio. And, the new combined company, Diebold Nixdorf, will be Ohio registered. We’re proud to be here. This is a good home for us. And we will remain to be an Ohio company.”

Mattes says Diebold-Nixdorf will operate in more than 100 countries and have revenues of more than $5 billion.
