BOSTON — The Burlington Mall and Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua are among 12 Simon malls that are now offering electric-vehicle charging stations for customers.

According to a press release, Simon Property Group and NRG EVgo, a subsidiary of NRG Energy Inc., have collaborated to install EV fast-charging Freedom Station sites that can recharge shoppers’ vehicles in 30 minutes or less.

Officials say the EVgo Freedom Station sites are designed to support both current and future charging technology, by serving local EV drivers’ on-the-go charging needs regardless of what kind of electric vehicle they drive.

As part of the regional launch, Simon Malls and EVgo are offering complimentary charging. Customers can enjoy free charging at the malls through Sunday.

“Simon is committed to providing sustainable amenities for our customers and the opening of EV charging stations at 12 properties in the New England region is a strong example of that,” said Mona Benisi, senior director of sustainability for Simon, in a statement.

Besides Burlington and Nashua, charging stations are also available at the following malls:

* Auburn Mall (Auburn)

* Cape Cod Mall (Hyannis)

* Copley Place (Boston)

* Emerald Square Mall (North Attleboro)

* The Mall at Chestnut Hill (Chestnut Hill)

* The Mall at Rockingham Park (Salem, N.H.)
