Sheriff: Woman shot while jogging, suspect sought

A woman was shot while jogging in Rankin County Friday morning, the Rankin County Sheriff's Department said.

Around 5:15 a.m., a jogger was on Castlewoods Boulevard near Brockhurst Court when she was shot in the leg by the occupant of a passing vehicle. The victim told authorities that she observed a white SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer or a Jeep Cherokee, driving toward her. As the vehicle passed, she heard a "pop." The victim then realized she had been shot in the left leg. The woman called 911 and walked to nearby Brookdale Senior Living Facility because it was a well lit area.

The driver was described as a white male in his mid twenties with facial hair, wearing a ball cap.

The woman was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.
