GREENWOOD – If you’re looking to shop for antiques, collectibles, furniture, and things of that sort at an ordinary store, then keep looking. Main Street Vintage in Greenwood is anything but ordinary.

In fact, at first glance, it really doesn’t look like a store at all. Main Street Vintage is located in a beautifully refurbished 19th century Victorian home, with many decorations and items for sale sitting outside. It’s the kind of “store” that makes you feel obligated to knock before entering.

Rhonda Lokken bought the home with her husband in March and with the help of her friend Julie Dallman, they quickly turned it into a store. They were open and ready for business in less than a month.

“I’ve wanted to do this for 15 years,” Lokken said. “We didn’t want to miss clientele, so we got running right away and it really worked out well for us.”

It proved to be a good fit. Both of the women have experience in business. Lokken has a business and marketing degree from Lakeland College and has worked in business for over 25 years, working in insurance, banking, and real estate. Dallman worked in retail sales for 18 years.

With that, the two women turned the home into a shop that is truly unique. Main Street Vintage sells almost everything you can think of — antiques, collectibles, furniture, accessories, jewelry, quilts, rugs, art, soaps, jellies, jams, syrups, and coffee just to name a few.

“If someone is looking for something that’s one of a kind, we have it,” Dallman said.

If the setting of the shop isn’t unique enough, maybe this is: All of the products available for purchase are set up in the home in the way that they’d actually be displayed in the customer’s home. With the exception of the checkout counter in the living room, the house is an extremely well decorated scene with everything looking like it’s right in place.

Many of the products the pair sells have been upscaled. They go to garage sales, thrift stores, and auctions around central Wisconsin to buy items at discounted prices. Then, they refurbish the items so they look good as new. You wouldn’t even notice if the gorgeous coffee table sanded down and intricately painted actually came from your own rummage sale.

In an effort to keep up with the seasons, Lokken and Dallman have everything set up for the winter holidays.

A small but well-detailed metal bike is on display at Main Street Vintage.

“We’ll have at least four or five Christmas trees heavily decorated,” said Lokken.

“We’ll also be selling wool mittens, jewelry, a fall line of cover-ups, ornaments, and other winter decorations for the house,” added Dallman.

The women are already looking ahead to the spring as well. Lokken noted that they’re looking to expand to the back porch and basement to include a larger line of decor and products for those types of areas. They are also beginning to do table and decor items for weddings and similar occasions.

If you’re looking for some distinctive gift ideas, look no further than Main Street Vintage. With every inch of the 2,000-plus square foot home being creatively utilized, you’ll undoubtedly find something for everyone.■
