Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Despite an 11-hit performance from the Dash offense, Frederick edged Winston-Salem 7-5 on Wednesday night at BB&T Ballpark.

Eight of the nine starters in the Dash lineup logged a hit against the Keys pitching staff. Hunter Jones recorded his third multi-hit game in four contests, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs. He is now hitting .359 in the month of May. Keon Barnum, who went 2-for-5 with an RBI, has now hit safely in 14 of his 17 starts since a month-long stint on the disabled list to begin the season.

After a scoreless first, the Keys (22-23) went to work against Dash starter Spencer Adams (4-3) in the second. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Jonah Heim smashed an RBI single to make it 1-0. The next batter, Cameron Kneeland, stroked an RBI single to center, and Erick Salcedo followed with an RBI knock to put Frederick up three. The Keys capped the four-run frame on a double play.

The Dash (17-30) got one back in the second thanks to catcher Brett Austin, who smacked a solo shot to left off Keys starter Mitch Horacek (2-4) to make it a 4-1 contest.

Winston-Salem added another tally in the third. With runners on first and second and two outs, Barnum lined an RBI single into center to cut the Keys lead to two.

Frederick would respond with its fifth and final tally off Adams in the fourth. With a runner on second and two outs, Jay Gonzalez bounced an RBI single to center field to make it 5-2. The 20-year-old Adams would finish the contest throwing five innings, allowing ten hits and five earned runs.

The Dash cut the deficit back to the two in the bottom of the fourth. Cleuluis Rondon laced an RBI double to left, bringing in Toby Thomas to make it 5-3. Horacek ended his outing by throwing five innings and allowing eight hits and three runs.

Euclides Leyer relieved Adams in the sixth inning and immediately allowed a solo home run to Cam Kneeland to make it 6-3.

Winston-Salem cut the lead the one in the seventh on a clutch hit from Jones. With runners on second and third and two outs, the Dash outfielder grounded a two-run single to center to cut the lead to one.

Danny Dopico worked a scoreless inning and a third before losing his control in the ninth. Dopico hit a batter and walked three, the last of which forced home a run to make it 7-5. With the bases still loaded and nobody out, Connor Walsh came into the ballgame and worked out of the frame without allowing any more runs.

However, Jimmy Yacabonis converted his fifth save in six chances, tossing 2.1 scoreless frames. Winston-Salem now falls to 5-18 on the home slate in 2016. #YourHomeTeam will complete its three-game homestand at BB&T Ballpark on Thursday at 7 p.m. against the Keys. Winston-Salem sends Brandon Brennan (0-3, 7.90 ERA) to the slab against fellow right-hander David Richardson (1-1, 4.20 ERA). The Pregame Dash begins at 6:45 p.m. on 600 AM-WSJS, wsjs.com and the TuneIn Radio App.
