BEDFORD (AP) — Progress Software Corp. on Wednesday reported a fiscal first-quarter loss of $971,000, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the enterprise-software company said it had a loss of 2 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 29 cents per share.

The company, based in Oak Park, posted revenue of $81.4 million in the period.

For the current quarter ending in May, Progress Software expects its per-share earnings to range from 29 cents to 32 cents.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $85 million to $88 million for the fiscal second quarter. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $103.7 million.

Progress Software expects full-year earnings in the range of $1.35 to $1.45 per share, with revenue ranging from $380 million to $390 million.

Progress Software shares have declined slightly since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $26.99, an increase of 22 percent in the last 12 months.

The company employs more than 1,000 people worldwide.
