HONG KONG -- Casino operators in Macau are in a funk lately, mostly because there are fewer Chinese high rollers. But in the case of Sands China, the trouble was made worse by a female gambler's hot streak.
The subsidiary of U.S. resort operator Las Vegas Sands booked $610 million in EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) for October-December, up 5% from a year earlier but falling short of market estimates. An executive attributed the poor results partly to an unidentified woman who won day after day at the Parisian Macao, the company's new casino.
