IKEA is done, for now, selling products on third-party websites such as Amazon.com as of Monday, June 26.
Mona Liss, IKEA U.S. Public Relations Manager, said in an emailed statement that any IKEA product still on Amazon.com is listed under a third-party.
"IKEA is not selling products on Amazon or any third party sites at this time. Any IKEA product on Amazon now is being sold by a reseller," Liss said.
"IKEA has no relationship with them. Currently IKEA is only exploring opportunities to sell on online platforms, in addition to its own. IKEA sells its products at IKEA stores worldwide and on IKEA.com."
An IKEA representative said in an email that the company ie working to correct "some misinformation" on this topic.
In mid-June, a search on Amazon for "IKEA" will show lamps, cosmetic products, its iconic furniture and even the sauce for its Swedish meatballs. As a response to an MLive article about IKEA selling products on Amazon, a company spokesperson said it was an opportunity to fulfill some curiosity on insights and to explore a new way of reaching customers.
"At IKEA we are curious and want to explore new areas and get new insights on how to reach and serve more of the many people," a company spokesperson said in an emailed statement.
"One part of that is that we are open to the idea of piloting and testing making IKEA products accessible through other online platforms than our own. "And our main focus remains of course with our existing sales channels, including IKEA.com and stores, where a lot of exciting development is going on."
The Scandinavian company, known for its affordable, assembly-required furniture, has locations in Metro Detroit and across the border in Windsor, Ontario.
