APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – School district officials in Appleton say a “short and anonymous automated phone call” about a bomb in the building put students and staff on a longer lunch break Monday.
According to the Appleton Area School District, the call was made just after 11:45 a.m. to Janet Berry Elementary School. Police were called and officers used a bomb-sniffing dog to check out the school building.
The building was cleared around 1:40 p.m., with students and staff being allowed back inside.
The school is located at 3601 S. Telulah Ave. on the city’s south side.
School leaders say other schools around the country reported receiving the same automated calls.
Edison Middle School in Green Bay and Oakwood School near Oshkosh also received threatening calls Monday, but it is unknown whether they are related.
