EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Thousands were left without power Tuesday afternoon after a problem in a substation, according to a tweet by Entergy.

Entergy reported more than 5,000 customers lost power in the Zachary and Slaughter area and another 2,000 in Baker.

The outage lasted about 40 minutes.

In Zachary, everything from the Winn Dixie to small businesses were left in the dark and the heat.

"We couldn't help any customers, and it was probably about 30 to 40 minutes," said vendor Linda Compton.

"It's nap time at my house and it's a hot time to be without air cause we're generally trying to do something inside like our quiet reading time, but it's too hot so we came outside to take a dip in the pool and cool off," said Zachary resident Jennifer Rupnow.

WAFB reached out to Entergy and have not heard back as to what exactly caused the outage. The company did post on its Twitter and Facebook to alert people to the problem.
