Public relations firm Matter Communications has acquired ThinkMedia Partners, a boutique communications firm, ThinkMedia said on Wednesday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Three employees from ThinkMedia Partners in Salem, Mass., will now work at Matter’s headquarters in Newburyport, Mass. ThinkMedia had five employees; two employees declined to make the move, the company said.

ThinkMedia’s founder Tim Hurley has joined Matter as executive vice president and a member of the firm’s senior staff.

Hurley launched ThinkMedia in 2010. The firm brings a roster of clients, including Lionbridge Technologies Inc., to Matter.

Hurley said he enjoyed running a small shop, but wanted to get back to an agency that was a bit larger and his agency had done several projects with Matter prior to the acquisition.

“The choice was either to grow organically or look to partner in some way and we had partnered with Matter on some projects. I felt like we had a common culture,” said Hurley.

Matter, which was founded in 2003, has a total of 60 staffers and a client list that includes Verizon Wireless and Lexar Media.

“This is a classic case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts,” said Scott Signore, CEO of Matter, in a statement included in an emailed news release on the acquisition. “All of our clients will benefit from this acquisition as our agency will have even more experience to bring to bear. It’s a very natural and positive step in Matter’s growth.”
