IMPERX has announced the hiring of Lee Kimes as the new Director of Research and Development. Kimes will lead the newly-opened research and development facility in Orlando, FL, USA.

Announced in October, the new facility at the University of Central Florida (UCF) Incubator will enable the company to work in close proximity to UCF and to have access to their students and research institutes. UCF is the second largest university in the United States, with approximately 61,000 students, and was ranked as the 13th most innovative schools behind institutions like Stanford, MIT, and Harvard. UCF also houses the Center of Research and Education in Optics and Lasers, which is a graduate college of optical science and engineering.

Lee joins IMPERX with more than 25 years of experience. Hebegan at the Advanced Design Group of Westinghouse's Center of Excellence for Electro-Optical Systems and during his time there, he focused on Infrared Imaging Systems and Imaging Electronics. After 8 years at Westinghouse, he started working at FLIR Systems in Research and Development for large gimbaled EO/IR systems as well as laser designator development. He continued with FLIR, for 18 years, working on image processing, avionics electronics and electrical systems and was responsible for IR development and research. Lee held positions as EE Manager and Director of Engineering.

As Director of Research and Development, Lee will be working on developing new products and ideas for IMPERX.
