Community Awareness Week, aka Purple Week, is under way in Ionia and continues through Friday. It's a time in which community members can remember and honor those who have been affected by cancer, and provides an opportunity to raise funds to support those who are afflicted with the disease.

On Tuesday, the Ionia High School girl's varsity swim team and the Ionia RAYS YMCA swim team teamed up for a successful fundraiser.

On Wednesday, Oct. 7, there is a Girls Volleyball “Purple Match” at Ionia High School Gym at 5 p.m., and .1K Purple Family Fun Run in downtown Ionia at 6 p.m.

On Friday, Oct. 9, there is an Ionia High School Varsity Football “Purple Game” at 7 p.m. that features a Dawg Dance at halftime, face painting by IHS Cheer, Great Clips Purple Hair Stencils, “Let’s Break a World Record!” balloon pop and jersey presentation.
