HS Roundup: Muskies, Lady Devils, Electrics, Bishops earn girls soccer wins

NEW CONCORD – Host John Glenn overcame a 3-0 deficit to drop Tri-Valley 5-4 in Muskingum Valley League girls soccer on Thursday.

McKenzie Dorr scored twice and Chloe Williams kicked in a goal off an Alizza Bonifield assist during the first 22 minutes of the game to put the Scotties (1-1) ahead.

The Muskies (2-0) scored three goals in the final five minutes of the first half. Abby Wagner found Peyton Harrison at the 4:57 mark, Ashley Townsend scored on a Hannah Matheney assist about two minutes later and a Tri-Valley own goal made it 3-all at the half.

Another Tri-Valley own goal about seven minutes into the second half put John Glenn up for good then Matheney made it 5-3 at the 17:23 mark.

Dorr completed a hat trick on a Williams’ assist with seven minutes left to cap the scoring.

John Glenn owned a 12-9 edge in shots. Brittany Smith had five saves for the Muskies, and Emily Untied made seven stops for the Scotties.

Zanesville 7, Dover 0: Destiny Johnson scored four goals, and Karissa Weekley, Leikyn Dalponte, and Samantha Moore added goals in an East Central Ohio League victory for the Lady Devils (2-0, 1-0).

Weekley also had three assists, Allie Murphy had one assist, and the shutout effort was led by Makenzie Newsom in goal, Jeya Wilson, Hallie Kimble, Ali Waite and Valerie Hickman.

Rosecrans 5, Warren Vincent 0: Kylan Harper scored two goals, and Claire Creeks, Darby Lynch and Chloe Amich added goals in the nonleague win.

Sadie McCarthy, Creeks, Harper and Amich had assists, Allison Losco made eight saves, and Abby Hutcheson, Samantha Swackhammer, Ashton Kemble and Ryin Browning helped preserve the shutout for the Bishops (2-0, 1-0).

Philo 8, Morgan 0: Carrigan Pagath scored twice for host Philo (2-0 MVL) in MVL play.

Erin Pride, Haley Howard, Destiny Hutcheson, Selena Fisher, Olivia Merew and Hannah Hartman had goals for the Electrics, while Mallory Hill had eight saves.

Morgan keeper Donie Rae Wallace had five saves.

Boys Soccer

John Glenn 3, Tri-Valley 0: Austin Blatt scored two first-half goals and Kaden Taylor kicked in a second-half goal for visiting John Glenn (2-0 MVL).

Koen Riehl assisted on all three goals, Zak Harper had 13 saves in goal and Donny Ingold and Jonathan Perry were defensive stars for the Muskies.

Volleyball

John Glenn 25, 25, 25, Morgan 15, 9, 20: Maddie McGee tallied 12 kills, six aces and 1 1/2 blocks as visiting John Glenn opened its season with a victory at Morgan (1-2, 0-1).

Brooke Fatheree tallied 11 kills, one block and one ace, Erin Dickson passed out 15 assists, Mollie Founds totaled four kills with 1 1/2 blocks and Alexa Harshbarger chipped in nine assists, two blocks and two aces for the Muskies.

Philo 25, 25, 25, Liberty Union 9, 12, 18: Maddie Clayton hit 29 kills and Hannah Allen added 51 assists for the Electrics (3-0).

Boys Golf

John Glenn 151, Sheridan 160: Dylan Van Fossen posted a 3-under 33 at par-36 Wildfire, as the Muskies moved to 9-0 in the MVL.

Nathaniel Bennett added 36 and Bryan Smith and Colin Harshbarger had 41s for John Glenn.

Costa Coconis shot 38, Ryan Grove and Hunter Hardy had 39s and Noah Cooperrider chipped in a 44 for the Generals (5-4 MVL).

West Muskingum 177, Philo 189: Blake Stubbins and Zach Herron (42) led the host Tornadoes to an MVL win.

Marcus King (46) and Luke Imes (47) also scored for the Tornadoes.

Liam Blake (40) took medalist honors for the Electrics. Also scoring for Philo were Logan Jarrett (44), Evan Smith (50) and Makayla Stottsberry (55).

New Lexington wins two: The Panthers defeated Licking Valley 175-178 and Newark 175-215 in a triangular behind Brayden Metzger, who earned medalist honors with a 38.
