AMN Healthcare Services Inc. (NYSE: AHS), CHG Healthcare Services and Jackson Healthcare rank as the three largest healthcare staffing firms in the U.S., according to Staffing Industry Analysts’ 2014 report on the largest healthcare staffing firms. Twenty-nine staffing firms generated at least $50 million in healthcare temporary staffing revenue in 2013; combined, they generated $5.7 billion and comprised 59 percent of the market.

By segment, CHG ranked as the largest locum tenens staffing firm with 29 percent of the market share, and Maxim Healthcare Services ranked as the largest per diem nursing firm with 8 percent market share. AMN Healthcare Services ranked as the largest travel nurse staffing firm with 25 percent market share.

“We note that from 2007 to 2013, the five largest and fifteen largest firms have steadily increased their share of the total market, indicating a trend of increasing consolidation in the healthcare staffing industry,” the report states. “In 2014, Cross Country Healthcare’s acquisition of Medical Staffing Network represents further consolidation in the segment and a continuation of that trend.”
